چکیده

We have found 100 X-ray jets in the database of full Sun images taken with the Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT) aboard Yohkoh during the period from 1991 November through 1992 April. A statistical study for these jets results in the following characteristics: 1) Most are associated with small flares (microflaressubflares) at their footpoints. 2) The lengths lie in the range of a few x 10-4 x 10 km. 3) The widths are 5 x 10-10 km. 4) The apparent velocities are 10-1000 km s 1 with an average velocity of about 200 km s _ 1 . 5) The lifetime of the jet extends to ~ 10 hours and the distribution of the observed lifetime is a power law with an index of ~ 1.2. 6) 76% of the jets show constant or converging shapes; the width of the jet is constant or decreases with distance from the foot point. The converging type tends to be generated with an energetic foot point event and the constant type by a wide energy range of the footpoint event. 7) Many jets (~ 68%) appear in or near to active regions (AR). Among the jets ejected from bright-point like features in ARs, most (~ 86%) are observed to the west of the active region. 8) 27% of the jets show a gap ( > 10 km) between the exact footpoint of the jet and the brightest part of the associated flare. 9) The X-ray intensity distribution along an X-ray jet often shows an exponential decrease with distance from the footpoint. This exponential intensity distribution holds from the early phase to the decay phase.

On-Orbit Performance and Calibration of the Soft X-Ray Telescope on Yohkoh

This paper documents details of the on-orbit performance, data problem solving, and calibration of the Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT) experiment on Yohkoh. This information is important to a full understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the SXT data set. The paper begins with summaries of SXT calibration issues and how they have been addressed, operational anomalies experienced during the m...

Solar coronal differential rotation from XBPs in Hinode/XRT and Yohkoh/SXT images

Aims. Our aim is to identify and trace the X-ray Bright Points (XBPs) over the disk and use them as tracers to determine the coronal rotation. This investigation will help to clarify and understand several issues: whether (i) the corona rotates differentially; (ii) the rotation depends on the sizes of the XBPs; and (iii) dependence on phases of the solar magnetic cycle. Methods. We analysed the...

Static and Dynamic Modeling of a Solar Active Region. I: Soft X-Ray Emission

Recent simulations of solar active regions have shown that it is possible to reproduce both the total intensity and the general morphology of the high temperature emission observed at soft X-ray wavelengths using static heating models. There is ample observational evidence, however, that the solar corona is highly variable, indicating a significant role for dynamical processes in coronal heatin...

X-ray and radio manifestations of a solar eruptive event

We report on a study of the changes in the vicinity of a disappearing solar filament (DSF) that occurred on 1993 April 30. The DSF was associated with a long duration X-ray event (LDE) observed by the GOES and Yohkoh spacecraft. A detailed analysis of the X-ray images obtained by the Yohkoh Soft Xray Telescope revealed that X-ray manifestations of the eruption were wide-spread: (i) X-ray enhanc...

Results from the Yohkoh

The Japanese sun observing satellite, Yohkoh, has been operational for ve years and her scientiic instruments are still in good condition. They have revealed ample of evidences that solar ares were triggered by magnetic reconnection, which was, for the rst time, clearly indicated to take place in the solar corona. Cusp structures in soft X-rays and a new type of hard X-ray sources at the top of...
